Madison Kindberg, B.S., is a first-generation college graduate and cattlewoman. She is currently a M.S. candidate with Dr. Frank Mitloehner in the Animal Biology Graduate Group at the University of California, Davis and plans to continue her education with a Ph.D. in the Mitloehner Lab.
Madison grew up in a small, agriculture town near Oakdale, California. She grew up around livestock and eventually volunteered with a large animal veterinarian to advance her cattle experience. In high school, she began her own commercial cow-calf operation, that has now expanded into cattle and hay production. This commercial cow-calf operation motivated her to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science and Management with an emphasis in livestock production at the University of California, Davis.
During her undergraduate career, Madison was dedicated and heavily involved in advancing her cattle experience further. She worked at the University of California, Davis, Beef Cattle Facilities as a live-in feedlot resident to advance her skills in cattle management and research. Madison was President of the Young Cattlemen’s Association at the University of California, Davis during her undergraduate career, and remains involved as a Graduate Advisor today. She also furthered her research skills as an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. James Oltjen’s and Dr. Frank Mitloehner’s labs. Madison also completed renowned internships with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the California Cattlemen’s Association alongside attending the Certified Angus Beef Youth Beef Leaders Seminar. She also completed her Cattle Artificial Insemination and Beef Quality Assurance Certifications which uphold industry standards for beef cattle handling safety and welfare.
Madison’s love for beef cattle production has motivated her to continue her education and contribute to impactful research within the beef industry. Madison’s research is focused on producing applied research that will aid the beef industry in meeting the demands for quality, sustainably raised beef. Madison continuously strives to expand her commercial cow-calf operation, contribute to applied research within the beef industry, and mentoring the next generation of students and beef cattle producers.
