CLEAR Center, Aggies kick off fall with salute to agriculture

DAVIS, August 6, 2024 - Even as the CLEAR Center at University of California, Davis, works to help farmers and ranchers achieve environmental and climate objectives in its home state, in America, and in regions and nations throughout the world, it is focused on an altogether different kind of goal.

Salute to Ag Day Football Game, Sept. 7

  • West side $18 (normally $35)

The CLEAR Center is sponsoring the matchup between a ranked UC Davis football squad and Texas A&M-Commerce in the Universities first-ever Salute to Ag football game. The home opener, which is scheduled for Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in the UC Davis Health Stadium, will honor our farmers, ranchers, workers and allied industry members — an appropriate theme, given that the Aggies rep one of the leading ag schools in the nation.

“What a great night it will be when we sponsor the Aggies’ first home game, treat students, alums and families to specially priced tickets, and put our incredible agriculture industry in the spotlight,” said Frank Mitloehner, an animal agriculturalist, air quality specialist and director of the CLEAR Center. “Farming and ranching in California are among the best in the United States, if not the world. The growers and all the partners who make their work possible are showing what can be done when we come together to make the essential undertaking more sustainable.”

The Aggies football team has a storied history spun for more than a century in the small college town of Davis. It began in 1915, reaching the NCAA’s highest level in July 2007 as an FCS competitor in the Big Sky Conference. The Aggies, who open the 2024 season at Cal, are heading into the season at No. 18 in the country in the 2024 Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25 poll. Under first year head coach and former Aggie Tim Plough, UC Davis returns a strong squad that went 7-4 (5-3 Big Sky) in 2023, narrowly missing out on the NCAA National Championship Playoffs.
