UC Davis Welcomes Fans to Celebrate California Agriculture at Sept. 26 Football Game
The roar of the crowd won't be the only thing drawing fans to the UC Davis Health Stadium on Sept. 26. As the Aggies take on Montana in this year's Salute to Agriculture football game, visitors will also have the opportunity to meet the farmers, ranchers, and industry leaders helping shape the future of food and agriculture.
Hosted by the UC Davis CLEAR Center in partnership with the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the annual event celebrates California's agricultural heritage while connecting the campus and broader community with the people and science behind the food they eat.
During the game, fans are invited to explore an interactive fan experience featuring educational exhibits and hands-on activities from organizations across California agriculture. Industry partners, commodity groups, the UC Davis Swine Club and UC Davis organizations will be on hand to share how innovation, research and collaboration are strengthening the future of farming and ranching.
"Salute to Agriculture is an opportunity to celebrate the people who produce our food and to connect fans with the science and innovation happening every day in agriculture and right here at UC Davis," said Frank Mitloehner, director of the UC Davis CLEAR Center and Chair of the Animal Science Department. "Whether someone grew up on a farm or has never stepped onto one, we want them to leave with a better understanding of the important role agriculture plays in all of our everyday lives."
Visitors will have the chance to meet students and producers, ask questions about livestock and crop production, learn about sustainability initiatives and discover the many career opportunities available throughout California's diverse agricultural industry.
For Joe Proudman, deputy director of the CLEAR Center, the event is about creating conversations that extend beyond the football field.
"One of the best ways to build trust is through face-to-face conversations," Proudman said. "Salute to Agriculture brings together the people raising our food and the public in a setting that's fun and engaging. It's a chance to share agriculture's story in a way that people can experience firsthand."
The event also highlights UC Davis' longstanding leadership in agricultural research, education and extension. From improving animal health and environmental sustainability to training the next generation of agricultural leaders, the university continues to partner with producers and industry organizations to address the challenges facing food production today. Consistently ranked among the top programs in the world, UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CA&ES) is internationally recognized as a leader in agricultural, environmental, and human sciences.
The evening will also feature the First-Year Field Storm, giving new UC Davis students the chance to take the field before the game and celebrate one of the season's biggest matchups as the Aggies host Montana in their first Big Sky Conference home game of the year.
