Bio
Dr. Shiva Zargar is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Davis, specializing in life cycle assessment (LCA), environmental product declarations (EPDs), product carbon footprint (PCF), techno-economic analysis (TEA), and multi objective optimization (MOO) of agricultural and industrial processes.

She earned her Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, where she developed BIO-OPT, an analytical platform integrating LCA, TEA, and MOO for evaluating the role of forest biorefineries in achieving a sustainable bioeconomy. She also holds two master's degrees: one in Biology, with a focus on LCA, and another in Biosystems Mechanics, in the field of renewable energies.

Her interdisciplinary research spans agriculture and food systems, bio-based materials and products, construction materials, energy systems, chemicals, and emerging technologies, with a growing emphasis on integrating artificial intelligence into LCA.

Her work focuses on quantifying environmental impacts, evaluating sustainability trade-offs, and identifying opportunities to enhance resource efficiency, reduce emissions, and improve the environmental performance of production systems.

Dr. Zargar is a recipient of the prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and was recognized among Canadian Forest Industries’ 2026 Top 20 Under 40. She also actively contributes to the development of international standards, methodologies and guidelines related to LCA. Through her work, she is committed to advancing scientific knowledge, informing environmental policy, and translating rigorous research into evidence-based decisions that drive meaningful progress toward a more sustainable future.
